During the excavations in the ancient site of Metsamor which is taking place more than fifty years, the citadel with palace and economic buildings, the unique shrines with alters, the “observatory” for viewing the celestial bodies , the “workshop” of smelters and foundries representing the complete cycle of metalworking, Early Bronze Age raw brick dwellings, with round plan, Late Bronze-Iron Age urban district and a huge tomb have been opened.

Security systems are being installed in the area of the monuments As we reported earlier, the sculptures “Echo” (sculptor Khachatur Hakobyan) and “Ribbon of Infinity” (David Bedzhanyan), which are located on the Yerevan-Sevan highway, were regularly vandalized, and the “Service for the Protection of Historical Environment and Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserves” SNCO decided to prevent possible violations by installing modern security systems on the territory of the monuments.

Metsamor is one of the most studied unique archaeological monuments of V-I century BC in the Armenian Highland, and throughout the Ancient Near East. It includes the settlement of the Bronze-Iron Ages (citadel, city districts and platform for celestial observations) and the cemetery. The area is more than 200 hectares. The site is located in Ararat plain, about 35 km west of Yerevan, in the administrative district of the Taronik community.
